For one year, in connection with a big data project on board the ‘Rem Hrist’, Remøy Shipping has reduced fuel consumption by more than 10% by analyzing the ship's Big Data. The company has therefore decided to install the Ulstein Blue Box on two more ships.

INFRASTRUCTURE INDEPENDENT OF SUPPLIER
Ulstein Blue Box™ itself is the infrastructure from the ship to cloud. The box is installed on board any type of ship and is non-dependent of supplier. By arranging for the desired signal output from the ship, advanced analyses of the ship’s data streams can be set up.
Ulstein Blue Box ™ is built on the X-CONNECT® universal digital platform, which makes the product configurable. The connection is also event-driven, which reduces strain on the VSAT network, and eliminates unnecessary and costly flows of data.
This is a great advantage and gives the ability to easily adjust the subscribed signals. The box stores data when the ship has poor coverage and sends this data as soon as the communication to the cloud has been reestablished. The solution also includes data encryption and adjustable bandwidth limitation to secure data information and lower the costs.
REDUCES FUEL CONSUMPTION AND MAKE OPERATIONS MORE EFFICIENT
Remøy Shipping has decided to study green fuel consumption and the way the vessel is operated in the analyses they receive and have developed a ‘best practice’ database based on real operations, developed together with Recogni.
"We will use data analysis as a competence transfer between ships. We can uncover the causes of operating differently, and the crew receives information on the monitors about actions on how to operate in a more fuel efficient way. Our crews are already skilled and competent in their work, and now they have the opportunity to perform even better when receiving operational support directly on the bridge monitors,» says Søvik.
