Yard service

2003-2004: The vessel came to the yard on 5 December 2003, and the conversion was completed in May 2004. 1,300 t of new steel were used in the production of sponsoons, the crane base, a new accommodation module and an ROV hangar. A 300t crane was installed on the port side, and the previously installed 25t crane was moved to the starboard side. The sponsoons widened the vessel by 3.6 m from the aft to the wheelhouse. In a 60m length, the load deck was strengthened, from 3t/m2 to 10t/m2. A moonpool was installed, along with three new ROV stations, one of which is inside a hangar. A carousel for umbilicals with a capacity of 2,500 t was installed. The same type of conversion was carried out on the sister vessel.

Key upgrades included:

  • Structural expansion: Added 1,300 tonnes of steel, widening the vessel by 3.6 metres and reinforcing the deck to handle 10 tons/m² over 60 metres.
  • Heavy-lift capability: Installed a 300-tonne active heave compensating crane, supported by a 4,400 kW power pack and a 300-tonne winch below deck.
  • Dynamic positioning & underwater operations: Upgraded to DYNPOS AUTR class with powerful thrusters, a moon-pool, and three new ROV stations.
  • Pipe-laying system: Added a 2,500-tonne pipe carousel capable of laying umbilicals at 600 metres/hour.
  • Accommodation upgrade: Expanded living quarters to support 114 people, up from 70, with new cabins, offices, and air conditioning.

The project was praised for its speed and collaboration, with similar work later carried out on sister vessel Normand Clipper.

The vessel was chartered by Sonsub Saipem.
