Exploration, reimagined - expedition cruising by Ulstein

True luxury at sea is not about excess; it is about space, serenity and confidence in every detail. Ulstein‑designed cruise vessels offer a premium experience shaped by Norwegian maritime expertise, where quiet sophistication meets advanced engineering and responsible innovation.

At the heart of the experience lies the 'X-factor', the ULSTEIN X‑BOW®, a hull design that delivers exceptional seakeeping. By gently slicing through waves rather than riding over them, the vessel offers a smoother, quieter, and more stable journey. For discerning guests, this means restful nights, reduced vibration and an effortless sense of calm, even on long ocean crossings. It is a difference felt immediately and remembered long after the voyage ends.

Luxury on board is defined by openness and light. Panoramic lounges, spacious cabins with ocean views and thoughtfully designed public areas create an atmosphere of understated elegance. Interiors are tailored to each operator’s brand and vision, combining premium materials with functional Scandinavian design to ensure comfort without compromise.

The Ulstein-designed, sailing cruise ships are designed for small‑ship luxury, where fewer guests allow for more personal service, a relaxed ambience, and privileged access to remote destinations. This exclusivity transforms each journey into a private exploration, where guests can engage deeply with the destination while enjoying the highest standards of hospitality on board.

Sustainability is an integral part of the premium experience. Ulstein’s holistic design approach focuses on energy efficiency, reduced emissions and future‑ready solutions. For today’s conscious luxury traveller, the knowledge that comfort, innovation and environmental responsibility go hand in hand adds genuine value to the journey.

An Ulstein‑designed cruise vessel offers more than transportation; it is turning visions into reality. It offers peace of mind, refined comfort and the freedom to explore the world in a way that feels both exclusive and responsible. This is modern luxury at sea, shaped by experience, innovation and a deep respect for the ocean.

Combining the X-BOW® with a view

Ulstein's series of cruise vessels combines the offshore tough with a luxury touch. The implementation of the X-BOW® feature, first used on numerous offshore vessels, contributes to a more comfortable journey in any weather. The passengers get close to nature whilst protected, on an extraordinary vessel.

Can ship design cure seasickness?

In October 2019, the first ULSTEIN X-BOW® polar expedition cruise vessel, 'Greg Mortimer', left Ushuaia for her inaugural voyage. She was heading for the dreaded Drake Passage to reach Antarctica. Among those on board was Peter Szyszka, a diving instructor who “gets seasick just by looking at water.”
