Olympic's second CSOV with a flawless sea trial

09 October 2024: The second Construction Service Operation Vessel (CSOV) for Olympic, Olympic Notos, has successfully completed its sea trial. This marks a significant milestone in the vessel’s journey towards full operational status, following in the footsteps of its sister vessel, the Olympic Boreas.

The sea trial for Olympic's new CSOV, Olympic Notos, is officially completed. And project manager for Ulstein Verft, Helge Torvik, is happy with the trial and everybody's efforts:

The sea trial went flawlessly. The vessel performed satisfactorily, and all tests has been performed as planned. I'm very satisfied with the contributions from all parties, both from Ulstein, Olympic and all subcontractors. Everyone has been working intensely to make this a successful sea trial!

Also Olympic's representatives are happy with the sea trial and cooperation in the project. The vessel's coming captain, Kim Kopperstad, thrived onboard during the sea trial, and predicts a bright future for the vessel:

About Olympic Notos

Like her sister ship, the Olympic Notos is based on the innovative ULSTEIN SX222 design and TWIN X-STERN® solution. Along with the hybrid propulsion system and advanced hull design the vessel has great seakeeping abilities, even described by some as a ‘4-wheel-drive’ for the seas. The superior manoeuvrability and operational efficiency significantly reduce the vessel's environmental footprint, while it is equipped and prepared for technology to pave the way towards a greener and more sustainable industry.

Propulsion: Diesel-electric with variable speed and large battery energy storage systems

Project Background

The contract for construction of the Olympic Notos was signed in 2022 between Olympic and Ulstein Verft. The hull was built at the Crist yard in Poland and outfitted at Ulstein Verft in Norway. This project benefited greatly from the experience gained during the construction of the Olympic Boreas.

Looking Ahead

With the successful completion of its sea trial, the Olympic Notos is now ready to join the Olympic fleet, contributing to the company’s operations in the offshore energy markets. This vessel, along with the Olympic Boreas, represents a significant step forward for sustainable maritime operations.
