Ship history

‘Vyacheslav Tikhonov’ (former: ‘Polarcus Selma’) is the last of six seismic vessels constructed for Polarcus at Drydocks World Dubai.  The ship was delivered on 8 August 2011. The six vessels are of three different designs, two of each type. ‘Vyacheslav Tikhonov’ and sister vessel ‘Barbaros Hayreddin Pasa’ (former: ‘Polarcus Samur’) are 3D seismic vessels of SX133 design from ULSTEIN.

Ships with the X-BOW® design have smoother acceleration and motion, resulting in more stable towing power and, thus, a more even load on the seismic equipment being towed aft. Such ships provide a steadier and safer working platform for the deck crew.

For all six vessels ULSTEIN delivered comprehensive design and main equipment packages, and also produced and delivered main switchboards, bridge and control room consoles. The vessels are equipped with an integrated automation system (ULSTEIN IAS®), a communication and infotainment system (ULSTEIN COM®), navigation system (ULSTEIN NAV) and power management system (ULSTEIN PMS).

Polarcus signed a five-year Bareboat Charter Party Agreement with Russian OAO Sovcomflot (SCF) for 'Vyacheslav Tikhonov', and the vessel was officially named 'Vyacheslav Tikhonov' in a naming ceremony in Sochi, Russia on 16 September 2011.

The Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, assumed the role of Guardian to the seismic vessel. The vessel is named after the famous Soviet/Russian actor (1928-2009), who received numerous state awards.
