For vessels with unattended machinery spaces, the extension alarm system alerts engineers on the bridge, in cabins and in public areas.

What is an integrated automation system?

An integrated automation system (IAS) monitors and controls a vessel’s technical systems from shared operator stations. It builds on an alarm and monitoring system (AMS), which detects critical conditions and alerts officers and engineers. When control functions are added, the AMS becomes an IAS. The industry also calls this an alarm monitoring and control system (AMCS). An IAS must meet additional class rules.
