Olympic Notos launch

Launch of the second Olympic CSOV

On Wednesday, 21 August 2024, one month after the delivery of the Olympic Boreas, Ulstein Verft launched the second Construction Service Operation Vessel (CSOV) for Olympic; the Olympic Notos. Both vessels are built on the innovative TWIN X-STERN solution, a concept described as a '4-wheel-drive' for the seas.

From hull to high-tech: vessel transformation on track

"It has been a few hectic months since the arrival of the hull in May, but in a structured fashion", states project manager Helge Torvik at Ulstein Verft. "The experience from the first project is very valuable for us, and I am satisfied with what we have accomplished so far".

The project manager explains that the hull has gradually been transformed into another state-of-the-art vessel during her stay in the covered dock hall. Protected from the weather, the outfitting work such as piping and mechanical installations, accommodation work, electrical installations, and external paintwork has been performed according to plan. The next phase is the commissioning stage, which has already started.

About the vessels

The contract between Olympic and Ulstein was signed in 2022 and includes the design, engineering and construction of two CSOVs at Ulstein Verft. The hulls are built by the Crist yard in Poland. The vessels are powered by diesel-electric propulsion with variable speed and large battery energy storage systems. Ulstein Power & Control has been contracted to deliver an extended power and automation package, including a large battery supply.

The vessels are based on the ULSTEIN SX222 design from Ulstein Design & Solutions AS. They have a length of 89.6m and a beam of 19.2m and accommodate 126 people in 91 cabins, all cabins with daylight.

The hull shape and hybrid propulsion system will ensure high operational performance and seakeeping and substantially reduced environmental footprint.

Shipyard collaboration on standard auxiliary ships for the Norwegian Navy

The Royal Norwegian Navy has an ambition to acquire series‑produced, standardised naval vessels. This requires ships that are versatile, robust and future‑oriented, yet cost‑effective to build. Few shipyards in Norway can meet this challenge. Together, Larsnes Mek. Verksted (Larsnes) and Ulstein Group (Ulstein) have extensive experience and strong references in the design, construction, and maintenance of vessels. They collaborate to offer a solution that ensures the efficient production of naval ships.
