  • The first X-STERN being mounted on a vessel for the offshore wind service industry.
  • Site manager Magnar Kvamme and inspector Tomasz Bieniek are two of four Ulstein people following the construction progress closely.

Yno 309 and 310 are scheduled for delivery from Ulstein Verft in 2016 and 2017. In addition to being the first vessels from Ulstein Verft in the offshore wind service segment, they are also the first so far with an X-STERN. Ulstein Group has four people following up the production on-site at the Crist hull yard in Poland.

"The work progress is steady", reports site manager Magnar Kvamme.

The X-STERN has several of the same characteristics as the X-BOW. It leads to reduced pitch and wave drift forces, as well as eliminating slamming. Positive effects are reduced power and fuel consumption while on DP, and there will be no green sea on deck due to the stern shape and enclosed nature of the aft deck.

The vessel will be shipped to Ulstein Verft, Norway, in end December.
Ulstein Verft signed the shipbuilding contract in Q1 2015 with the Germany-based Bernhard Schulte Offshore. The final detailed arrangements and equipment for the vessels have been developed and specified in cooperation with WINDEA Offshore GmbH & Co. KG, which is the Bernhard Schulte Offshore's affiliate for offshore wind projects.

Inclining test completed on Orient Adventurer - Aftermarket services that keep vessels fit for new roles

Vessel conversions and re‑mobilisations demand more than drawings and calculations. Recent work on Orient Adventurer, now being prepared for cable-laying operations, demonstrates how critical in-depth knowledge of a vessel’s operational history is to deliver safe, class-approved solutions. Through Ulstein’s aftermarket services, we support complex vessel upgrades with engineering, stability, and weight expertise, including planning and executing inclining tests for conversion and life‑extension projects.

How Ulstein tested a new cable-laying vessel design

How can you be confident that a new vessel design will actually perform in rough seas and demanding operations? The answer lies in thorough verification, independent testing and documented performance. Recently, a new Ulstein design for a cable-laying vessel was tested in a large-scale ocean basin at SINTEF Ocean. The results delivered exactly what Ulstein seeks: confidence that the design performs as intended.
