Ulstein Power & Control secures contract for system deliveries to two CLVs

Ulstein Power & Control has signed a contract to deliver complete hybrid power and automation systems for two cable-laying vessels to be built for OMS Group at Ulstein Verft. “This is an important contract for us and confirms our position as a leading supplier of systems for complex maritime operations,” says Peter Pilskog, Managing Director of Ulstein Power & Control.

The hybrid power system has been developed to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, while the control system provides holistic management of the vessel’s systems, ensuring safe, stable and energy-efficient operation under all operating conditions.

High operational reliability and optimal energy efficiency

“Our focus is on delivering power and automation solutions based on a flexible platform. This allows operators to tailor the system to different operations and achieve energy-efficient performance. The technology is well proven in operation and delivers excellent results,” says Rolf Ottar Rovde, Sales Manager at Ulstein Power & Control.

Robust power package

The solution is based on a robust low-voltage AC platform, including ULSTEIN® POWER Variable Speed Generator (VSG) and batteries. This enables the generators to operate more efficiently, while the battery system provides both reserve power and the necessary power boost when operations require rapid load changes. The result is improved dynamics, stable operation and reduced energy consumption.

Integrated automation based on X-CONNECT

The integrated automation system is the core of the solution, managing interactions among power generation, energy storage, and onboard consumers. The system automatically handles operating modes, start-up and shutdown sequences, and load prioritisation, and continuously adapts energy usage to the current operating mode.

The entire automation system is delivered as an integrated solution based on the X-CONNECT platform, providing unified monitoring and control of the vessel’s systems through a single interface.

“This contract clearly demonstrates that our focus on integrated power and automation systems is delivering results. We are proud to contribute solutions that meet both current and future requirements of the maritime industry,” concludes Peter Pilskog.

Introducing ULSTEIN® POWER VSG: Setting new standards in marine power efficiency

The ULSTEIN® POWER Variable Speed Generator (VSG) has been designed to optimise power generation on marine vessels by dynamically adjusting its speed to match load requirements. Together with technical measures and overall ship design, the operational results on the CSOV Olympic Boreas show a record-low 2.7 tonnes of fuel consumed over 24 hours during a week of DP operations.
