The Royal Norwegian Navy has an ambition to acquire series‑produced, standardised naval vessels. This requires ships that are versatile, robust and future‑oriented, yet cost‑effective to build. Few shipyards in Norway can meet this challenge. Together, Larsnes Mek. Verksted (Larsnes) and Ulstein Group (Ulstein) have extensive experience and strong references in the design, construction, and maintenance of vessels. They collaborate to offer a solution that ensures the efficient production of naval ships. 

Ulstein Group received the 'Teamwork of the Year 2025 Award' at the IDC conference in Ålesund on 16 October 2025. The jury stated that: "Ulstein Group has built a culture where all disciplines are equally valued. The results speak for themselves: forward-looking vessels that meet both commercial and societal goals. Ulstein demonstrates how interdisciplinary collaboration can lead to groundbreaking solutions in the maritime sector, showcasing a strong ability to bring together designers, engineers, and key personnel in developing holistic concepts that combine technology, function, and aesthetics. Collaboration across disciplines and stakeholders – from local partners to international clients – drives innovation with global impact."

Yinson GreenTech’s business unit marinEV, which delivers maritime electrification solutions in Singapore, has entered into a partnership with Blue Ctrl AS, a Norwegian software provider specialising in maritime systems. The collaboration will introduce Blue Ctrl’s X-CONNECT platform to the maritime market in Singapore.

Ulstein Verft has signed a contract with Olympic to retrofit the Olympic Notos for operations supporting unmanned installations on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. This project will provide extensive work for Ulstein.

Van Oord and Ulstein collaborate on a powerful newbuild set to enhance offshore installation capabilities.

The hull of the state-of-the-art DP3 cable-laying vessel Nexans Electra arrived at Ulstein Verft on 5 July 2025. This marks the commencement of the outfitting and completion phase of the vessel. Upon completion in 2026, she will feature a split turntable on deck capable of holding up to 10,000 tonnes of cable, an under-deck turntable with a 3,500-tonne cable capacity, and a fibre optic tank with a 450-tonne capacity.

26 June 2025 – Bernhard Schulte Offshore (BSO) has taken delivery of the state-of-the-art, commissioning service operation vessel (CSOV) WINDEA Curie, yard number 320 from Ulstein Verft. 

Ulstein Group recorded revenues of NOK 3.1 billion and an operating profit of NOK 198.8 million in 2024. 

Ulstein Group and Larsnes Mek. Verksted are working together to deliver 28 standard vessels for the Norwegian Navy. This marks the beginning of a close collaboration between two of Norway's most experienced and modern shipyards, aiming to deliver the future naval vessels.

Ulstein Digital, a newly established subsidiary of Ulstein Group, has officially joined Veracity by DNV’s partner network. The partnership enables seamless integration between Ulstein’s data platform and Veracity by DNV, automatically transferring validated MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification) data into DNV’s verification service. This automation significantly reduces manual workload, saving time and resources for maritime operators.

4 June 2025: Megamas Resources announced a ship design contract with Norway-based Ulstein Design & Solutions AS to start the engineering phase on a fibre-optic cable-laying vessel (CLV) planned to be built at the Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven GmbH. 

Three of Ulstein's designs are among the Work Boat World Awards 2024 winners. Tamhae 3 clinched the 'Best Large Research Vessel' award, Olympic Boreas was named 'Best CSOV', and JSD 6000 took home the 'Best Derrick Layer' accolade from Baird Maritime/Work Boat World. These awards celebrate the best vessels in their categories, judged on design, build quality, and functionality.

The collaboration between thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (tkMS) and Ulstein is a strategic boost for the Norwegian maritime industry, tkMS being one of four remaining contenders in a major maritime project. This is the only European alternative that includes building in Norway.

Oslo, 26 March 2025: At the Undersea Defence Technology conference, thyssenkrupp Marine Systems and Ulstein Verft signed a Letter of Intent to collaborate on delivering the Royal Norwegian Navy's next advanced frigates.

On 11 March 2025, the hull of yard number (Yno) 321 for BS Offshore arrived at Ulstein Verft. This marks the beginning of a new phase in the shipbuilding process. The vessel is designed by Ulstein Design & Solutions AS for ‘walk-to-work’ (W2W) operations, where personnel walks via a motion-compensated gangway from the ship to a wind turbine.
