Ulstein Verft welcomes hull for next-generation offshore energy (CSOV) vessel

On Friday 15 August 2025, the hull for a new offshore wind service vessel of the CSOV type arrived at Ulstein Verft. This marks a new step in the process towards the completion of this state-of-the-art vessel, which has been developed to support energy-efficient offshore wind operations with high performance.

The vessel is based on the proven SX222 design platform and features Ulstein’s innovative TWIN X-STERN® solution, which enables superior fuel efficiency and reduced motion—critical for safe and comfortable offshore operations. With hybrid battery propulsion and preparations for green methanol fuel, the vessel is built to meet future environmental standards and support carbon-neutral operations.

The hull has been built at Crist, Poland, and the arrival at Ulstein Verft initiates the next phase of outfitting and commissioning, with delivery scheduled for 2026. The vessel will be equipped with a motion-compensated gangway and elevator tower for personnel and cargo transfers, a 3D compensated offshore crane, and optimised onboard logistics including large storage capacities and a stepless approach to offshore installations.

The ship is the first of two and is a flexible and attractive platform for work within areas such as O&M (Operation and Maintenance) or construction support. The ship design has been proven in challenging weather and sea conditions.

Innovation is a core strategy in Ulstein, and we are committed to delivering sustainable and innovative solutions for the offshore energy sector. We keep pushing progress in the maritime industry by combining forward-thinking design with high-quality shipbuilding.

Aurora Expeditions: Redefining small-ship exploration with X-BOW® designs

Aurora Expeditions welcomed its third X-BOW cruise vessel, Douglas Mawson, in September 2025. “Many of our guests have travelled on other expedition ships before and immediately notice the difference. Whether it’s sleeping better at night, feeling less vibration during lectures, or spending more time in observation areas, the design truly enhances the experience,” says Katie Malone, Chief Marketing Officer at Aurora Expeditions, when commenting on the X-BOW design feature.
