The two vessels are of the ULSTEIN SX195 and SX197 design, carrying 100 POB and 60 POB, respectively. They are the first purpose-made SOVs for China offshore wind farms, and are scheduled to enter into service in 2024.
The two vessels have the Ulstein iconic design features, the ULSTEIN X-BOW and X-STERN, providing a highly efficient, robust, and state-of-the-art O&M service platform to the end customers. With batteries installed, the vessels will have a greener footprint when servicing the renewable energy segment.
The launch ceremony was attended by China offshore wind farm developers like the State Power Investment Corporation, Three Gorges Corporation, and China Nuclear Power. The farm owners recognize the effectiveness and efficiency these purpose-made SOVs can provide and look forward to welcoming them for wind farm operations.
First SOVs in China: Ulstein awarded offshore wind ship design contract for Shanghai Electric and ZPMC
On 25 January 2022, the ZPMC shipyard, China, and Ulstein Design & Solutions AS signed the ship design contract on two types of Service Operation Vessels (SOVs) for Shanghai Electric Windpower Group. These are the first purpose-made SOVs designed for the Chinese Offshore Wind industry.
X-STERN®
The X-STERN introduces the documented X-BOW® effect to the aft ship, harnessing the benefits of improved safety for crew and equipment, increased flexibility in operations and reduced fuel consumption.
X-BOW®
The ULSTEIN X-BOW®, the inverted bow concept, redefined marine engineering. The bow concept was launched in 2005, together with the first shipbuilding contract, and gained immediate interest from shipowners. The X-BOW hull line design has been tried in most weather conditions.
