Ulstein Verft aftermarket: Delivering beyond the yard

Aftermarket services by the Ulstein Verft yard are also carried out at other sites. Recently, Area Sales Manager Aftermarket, Hans Ole Låbakk, and a service team carried out necessary work on board Hurtigruten’s vessel Trollfjord in Bergen.

“The customer approached us with an issue related to an exhaust boiler. After more than 20 years in operation, the vibration dampers and tie rods required replacement, and the boiler needed an overhaul. Even though we had no available dock or quay, our answer was simply: " We will solve this,” says Låbakk.

A service team was quickly assembled and prepared to mobilise on board to ensure efficient execution.

Ulstein delivers where the customer is

The work was carefully planned in close dialogue with the customer. The team brought prefabricated components and tools and boarded the vessel in Torvik, a few kilometres from Ulstein Verft. Once the vessel arrived in Bergen and all passengers had disembarked, the project could begin.

Four intensive days on board

The team lived and worked on board, enabling efficient execution and close collaboration with the client. Over four intensive days, the work was carried out in a focused and structured manner, ensuring safe conditions for all involved.

The scope of work included:

  • dismantling and reinstallation of exhaust piping
  • replacement of the boiler top cover
  • alignment and adjustment work
  • installation of new vibration dampers and tie rods
  • welding of stiffeners and necessary adaptations

Opening new opportunities in aftermarket services

“This project demonstrates what we can deliver when we combine strong expertise, thorough planning and flexibility,” says Låbakk.

“We take responsibility, find solutions and deliver — even when the job is outside Ulstein Verft. This opens new opportunities for our aftermarket services.”
