"Olympic Boreas" CSOV nominee for 'Ship of The Year 2024' Award

The Construction Service Operation Vessel (CSOV) "Olympic Boreas", set for delivery from Ulstein Verft in 2024, has been nominated for the 'Ship of The Year' award by the jury of the maritime magazine Skipsrevyen.

Voting is now open, and you can place your vote via this link to an article (in Norwegian) with the voting form at the end.

The vessel design, with its efficient hull and system configuration, was developed in close cooperation between the shipping company Olympic and Ulstein Design & Solutions AS. It is based on the new TWIN X-STERN-design – the marine answer to "four-wheel- drive".

The design is notable for its dual stern configuration with main propellers at each end, which allows for superior manoeuvrability and motion and improves fuel efficiency. The power system is developed and delivered by Ulstein Power & Control. This solution combines a large battery system and variable speed generators for optimising power production together with propulsion converters and power distribution.

Three exceptional vessels have been nominated for the prestigious 'Ship of the Year' award, a recognition that significantly impacts the maritime industry. The winner will be unveiled at the SMM exhibition in Hamburg in September. This year's nominees are 'Reach Remote 1,' 'Tyra,' and 'Olympic Boreas.'

Since its inception in 1997, the 'Ship of the Year' award has been a symbol of excellence in the maritime industry. It recognizes the contributions of shipbuilders, designers, and shipping companies in maintaining Norway's leading international position in shipbuilding and design. To be eligible for nomination, the ship must be built or completed at a Norwegian yard and delivered or planned for delivery during 2024.
