From Ulsteinvik, Norway to Ushuaia, Argentina: Global service in action

When expedition cruise vessels need urgent support at the edge of the world, Ulstein Power & Control delivers. Recently, Automation Engineer Markus Myklebust Myrstad travelled solo to Ushuaia, Argentina – the southernmost city on Earth – to ensure two ships stayed operational and ready for their next adventures.

A mission across time zones

Swift response and unwavering dedication are essential qualities for a service engineer.

“There are so many opportunities in this job,” says Markus.  

This time, his assignment involved:

  • Implementing a temporary remote solution for Ocean Victory before departure.
  • Installing two new controllers, correcting configurations, and performing onboard testing.
  • Conducting a full system inspection on Ocean Albatros ahead of her scheduled dry dock upgrade in April/May 2026.
  • Resolving additional technical issues requested by the chief.

Although Markus made the journey alone, he had strong backup from the support teams at Ulstein Power & Control office and BlueCtrl whenever needed, a true example of teamwork across continents.

About the vessels

Ocean Victory and Ocean Albatros belong to SunStone Ships’ Infinity-class and feature Ulstein’s signature X-BOW® hull design, reducing fuel consumption and improving comfort at sea. Polar Latitudes Expeditions operates both vessels.
