The state-of-the-art 'Olympic Boreas' CSOV has been delivered to Olympic by Ulstein Verft on 25.07.2024. The vessel is the first of two sister vessels, based on the ULSTEIN SX222 design by Ulstein Design & Solutions AS. 

Aptly nicknamed ‘A 4-wheel-drive for the seas’, the ULSTEIN TWIN X-STERN is celebrated for its exceptional manoeuvrability. To date, this innovative feature has been incorporated into ten newbuilds, all designed for the walk-to-work market and measuring up to 90m in length. The next likely segments to adopt the TWIN X-STERN are subsea and cable-laying.

As offshore wind farms grow in size and number of turbines, the demand for the capacity of existing inter-array cable laying vessels (CLVs) intensifies. The next-generation CLV must be capable, cost-effective, and able to serve more and larger turbines.

10 June 2024: Yard number 318 from Ulstein Verft completed her sea trial this weekend. The state-of-the-art CSOV vessel includes sophisticated energy systems and the ULSTEIN TWIN X-STERN solution in a prototype combo. 

The Construction Service Operation Vessel (CSOV) "Olympic Boreas", set for delivery from Ulstein Verft in 2024, has been nominated for the 'Ship of The Year' award by the jury of the maritime magazine Skipsrevyen. 

In May 2024, the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM) took delivery of Tamhae 3. Designed by Ulstein Design & Solutions AS, this is a new geophysical exploration research vessel built domestically by HJ Shipbuilding and Construction.

On Thursday, 30 May 2024, the CMHI yard, China, marked the keel lay for the next Ulstein-designed expedition cruise ship for SunStone Ships, the 'Douglas Mawson'. 

The delivery of the JSD6000 deepwater derrick lay vessel on May 28, 2024, marks a significant milestone in maritime engineering. Developed by Ulstein Design & Solutions B.V., the vessel’s design is a customized iteration of the SOC 5000 heavy lift vessel tailored to meet SAIPEM’s operational needs. 

Starting its journey from the drawing board to reality: On Thursday, 16 May 2024, the steel cutting ceremony was held at the Crist hull yard for Ulstein Verft's yard number 322. The CSOV vessel is based on a TWIN X-STERN platform and has been designed by Ulstein Design & Solutions AS.

Since unveiling the Thorium-powered ULSTEIN THOR design in April 2022, we have been swept by a wave of interest in the concept vessel and its unparalleled potential and capabilities. Set in a polar cruise context, ULSTEIN THOR alone could generate over 50 GWh of energy in a single 150-day cruise campaign. The result would be a significant environmental impact in Antarctica, with over 32,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions prevented.

The hull of yard number 319, Olympic's second TWIN X-STERN CSOV (Construction Service Operation Vessel), arrived Ulstein Verft in Norway on 8 May 2024, having been towed from the Crist hull yard in Poland. The outfitting phase will now start.

Both the Commissioning Service Operation Vessels (CSOVs) that Bernhard Schulte Offshore ordered from Ulstein in 2023 are currently under construction. In February, a keel lay ceremony was held for the first newbuild, Yno 320, at Crist hull yard in Gdynia, Poland. Now, the second vessel, Yno 321, can celebrate this important milestone.
